General Secretariat for Migration Policy

The General Secretariat of Migration Policy was established in 2010 by the Presidential Decree 11/2010 (16.02.10 Α’15). Following a series of administrative changes, the Secretariat was re-established by the Presidential Decree 18/2020 (Α34), in 2020.

In general, the General Secretariat of Migration Policy deals with the planning and implementation of:

1. The National and European policies for legal migration.
2. The International Protection policies, including the examination of international protection applications.
3. The Social Integration policies in Greece.

Moreover, the General Secretariat deals with the management of co-financed resources for the implementation of migration policies and develops the cooperation and coordination of relevant actions among the departments and bodies falling within its jurisdiction, as well as with other Ministries, local authorities, public services, NGOs and stakeholders involved in the management of migration and asylum.

Within the scope of its competences, representatives participate in meetings, which take place at an EU and international level, together with the competent EU bodies and/or international organisations, as well as to networks, with a view to enhancing and improving new EU migration policies.

Moreover, they participate and contribute to regional dialogue initiatives on migration between the European Union and third countries. In parallel, the General Secretariat takes all necessary steps in order to enhance cooperation with stakeholders and partners at international level.

The General Secretariat of Migration Policy is organized as follows:

  • The General Directorate of Migration Policy
  • The Asylum Service
  • The Appeals Authority

Additionally, the Secretary General monitors :

  • The Managing Authority for Migration and Home Affairs Funds.

Since August 2024 Generaly Secretary is Manos Logothetis .

Manos Logothetis

Manos Logothetis was born in 1976 in Athens. Ηe is married and has two children. After graduating from Moraitis School, he completed his studies in Medicine in the University of Semmelweis in Budapest. He holds postgraduate degree in "Organization and Management of Health Services" and Doctorate from the the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He is permanent doctor of EODY (former KEELPNO) and from 2007 until 2009 he had been appointed as advisor at the Ministry of Economy, in matters of Parliamentary Control, and as advisor in the Office of the President of KEELPNO.

In 2015 he was assigned by KEELPNO as Coordinator of the Medical and Psychosocial Field in Samos’ RIC. And in 2019 he was placed as General Coordinator of the Medical and Psychosocial Field in the 2nd Health District (coordinator for all the RICs in the islands), until August of the same year, where he was appointed at the Ministry of Citizen Protection as a Special Secretary for Reception. In February 2020 he was appointed as Secretary General for the Reception of Asylum Seekers, at the Ministry of Migration & Asylum, a position in which he served until July 2023 when he was appointed as Secretary General for Public Order at the Ministry of Citizen Protection. In August 2024, he assumed the duties of Secretary General of Migration Policy.
